*Correction* Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay to host open house
Correction: An earlier verison of this release listed the open house for Friday, July 28, when it is slated for Saturday, July 28.
SAMOA, Calif. – Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay is slated to open its historic doors and host the community it serves in its third annual open house event Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Coast Guard invites the public to tour the historic station building, check out the various rescue boats, and watch a search and rescue demonstration by an aircrew from nearby Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay.
“Station Humboldt Bay operates out of a beautiful 76-year-old building, and there is a lot of mystery that surrounds it,” said Master Chief Petty Officer Jon Gagnon, officer-in-charge of the Station Humboldt Bay. “This open house is an opportunity for the community to tour the building and learn about the professionals who serve here.”
Coast Guard boat handlers and aircrews will be available to speak with the public about boating safety and how the Coast Guard rescues mariners in some of the most dangerous seas in California.
Static displays will also be available from partner agencies such as, aircraft and command vehicles from the 129th Air Wing, local National Guard, Cal. Fire, the California Highway Patrol, Arcata Police Department, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office marine unit, and the California Department of Fish and Game.
This event is free and open to the public. Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay is located at 200 New Navy Base Rd. Samoa, Calif. For more information and directions, contact Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay at (707) 443-2213.
