| Coast Guard Barque Eagle will join three other tall ships during her visit to |

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — The Coast Guard Barque Eagle, the training ship for the Coast Guard Academy, will visit Portsmouth, N.H., for four days beginning August 7. The Eagle will be joining the Spirit of Massachusetts, the Spirit of South Carolina, and the Kalmar Nyckel for the Piscataqua Maritime Commission’s annual boat parade. The Eagle will be open for public tours at the following times:
The Eagle, a 295-foot square-rigger, will moor at the main ship pier down river from the Sarah Long Bridge at approximately 9:45 a.m., on Friday, August 7. The Eagle serves as a floating classroom for Coast Guard Academy cadets and officer candidates. While onboard, they learn the basics of navigation and seamanship while being challenged to work as a team as many of them experience life on the open ocean for the first time. The Eagle has a permanent crew of six officers and 56 enlisted sailors, however, when training the Eagle sails with as many as 230 people on board. The Eagle also acts as a goodwill ambassador for the Editor’s note: Limited media space will be available on board the Eagle and other Coast Guard vessels on Friday morning to view the Eagle’s arrival in port.
