BOSTON — A rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod rescued two people and their dog that were stranded in shallow water near hazardous rocks Saturday at about 4:30 p.m. near Hull, Mass.
Coast Guard Station Point Allerton received a call at 3:30 p.m. that the white pleasure craft was aground after becoming disabled and being pushed by the waves into the rocks.
Station Point Allerton launched a 25-foot response boat and was on scene with the vessel at 4:03 p.m. Due to the shallow water and rocks the boat crew was unable to get close enough to rescue the people on board.
The First Coast Guard District Command Center diverted an HH-60J Jayhawk helicopter to the scene and airlifted the two people and their dog to a near by baseball field in Hull, Mass. The people where then transferred to the Hull Fire Department.
There were no injuries to the people or their dog.
“With the weather moving through the area things are pretty hazardous on the water,” said Chief Petty Officer Gerald Welton, search and rescue controller at Coast Guard Sector Boston. “Fortunately, we were able to get a helicopter on scene and get these people to safety.”
