Coast Guard searching for missing fisherman

BOSTON — A Coast Guard jet and helicopter and five fishing boats are searching for a man who fell overboard from a fishing boat between 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., Friday about 125 miles east of Truro, Mass.

Missing is Chris Hopkins, 31, of Bass Harbor, Maine.

The crew of the 63-foot stern trawler Bella Rose, homeported in Bass Harbor, radioed for help when they realized that one of the fishermen who had been on board with them was missing.

A jet and helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., the Bella Rose, and four other fishing boats are continuing to search for Hopkins. The Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous, of Cape May, N.J., is en route and expected to be in the area around 7:30 a.m., Saturday.

The seas in the search area are about six feet, and the wind is blowing at about 15 mph.

Editor's Note: The initial press release stated that the Bella Rose is homeported in Bath Harbor, Maine. The correct homeport is Bass Harbor, Maine.
