Coast Guard Communication Station Boston to hold change of command 

FORESTDALE, Mass. - Coast Guard Communication Station Boston is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony at the Massachusetts Military Reservation in Cape Cod, Mass., Oct. 23, 2009, at 11 a.m.

During the ceremony, Senior Chief Petty Officer Daniel J. Farrell will assume the responsibilities of officer in charge of the unit from Senior Chief Petty Officer Mark G. Huntelman.

Cmdr. Eric L. Bruner, the commanding officer of Coast Guard Communication Area Master Station Atlantic, is scheduled to preside over the ceremony.

Farrell is a native of Baldwinville, Mass., and attended Narragansett Regional High School.  His previous tour was as officer in charge of Coast Guard Communication Station New Orleans.

Huntelman is a native of Torrance, Calif., and has been the unit’s officer in charge since 2005. He will be retiring to North Carolina after 30 years of service in the Coast Guard.

Communication Station Boston is one of four stations that provide communications to ships and aircraft from the Canadian Maritimes to the Gulf of Mexico. The station’s primary mission is to provide corrective and scheduled maintenance for 12 high frequency and two medium frequency transmitters.

Tracing its roots back to a four man station in Nahant, Mass., in 1926, Communication Station Boston and its 21 crewmembers has a proud history of serving the maritime community for more than 80 years.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition that formally restates to the officers and enlisted personnel of the unit the continuity and authority of command.  It is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled personnel of the unit.
