| Coast Guard transports injured fisherman |

BOSTON — The Coast Guard transported an injured fisherman from 100 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, The fishing vessel Santa Queen notified Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England at 3:19 p.m. Thursday, that a crew member had injured his thumb while handling line on deck. Sector The cutter arrived on scene at 8:50 p.m., and notified the flight surgeon at Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod of the injury. The flight surgeon determined that a medevac was not needed but recommended the fisherman return to shore for further medical evaluation. The Vigorous then transported the injured fisherman to a Coast Guard Station Chatham 42-foot response boat which brought the man to emergency service on shore. “We used several different assets during the rescue,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Steven Kent, operations unit controller at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England. “This allowed us to get the man to shore for further medical attention.”
