Coast Guard cutter returns from patrol

BOSTON – The Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba, a 270-foot medium endurance cutter, returned to her home port Dec. 23, 2009, after patrolling New England waters.

A majority of this patrol was spent weathering out rough seas as early-season Nor’easters passed through the New England waters.

Escanaba towed the fishing vessel Michael and Kristen with its crew of five after the vessels main engine failed Dec. 14.  The crew of Escanaba successfully brought the boat safely to port in Provincetown, Mass., Dec. 19.

Throughout the storms, Escanaba remained at the ready as New England’s offshore response cutter, ready to assist fishermen and other mariners.
