Media Advisory: Portland Coast Guard and Fire Department to Host Training

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine- Media are invited to attend a safety workshop for small passenger vessel operators in Maine hosted by Coast Guard Sector Northern New England and the Portland Fire Department, Thursday.

Attendees will receive classroom instruction and practical training on ship-board firefighting techniques and the operation of lifesaving equipment including a life raft deployment, flare demonstrations, and a live fire trainer.

What: The emergency preparedness workshop was designed to reinforce the importance of operating safely on the water by providing hands-on experience to small passenger vessel operators.
When: 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., May 13, 2010.
Where: Stevens Avenue Armory, 772 Stevens Ave., Portland, Maine.
Who: Hosted by personnel from Coast Guard Sector Northern New England and the Portland Fire Department.
