SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine - U.S. Coast Guard Sector Field Office Southwest Harbor is opening its doors to the public for its 9th annual open house Saturday, July 10, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Coast Guard Pier on Clark Point Road in Southwest Harbor.
This event is in conjunction with the Town of Southwest Harbor’s annual Flamingo Festival, and highlights the sense of great rapport between the Coast Guard and the local community.
During the open house the public will be welcome to tour the Coast Guard Station’s 47-foot, self-righting motor-life boat, 41-foot utility boat, and 25-foot response boat, in addition to hands-on displays of rescue and survival gear and knot-tying.
The Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team will be discussing their buoy yard and offering demonstrations of various lights that are utilized on different aids. The Coast Guard Cutter Bridle will be offering tours of their immaculately-maintained 65-foot ice breaking tug.
In addition, the Coast Guard Auxilliary will be present and providing public water safety information and boat displays. Finally, there will be a plethora of goodies for sale, games for children, and additional opportunities for insight on the multitude of Coast Guard jobs in its service to the public in Southwest Harbor, Maine.

On-base parking will not be available.
Due to increased security oversized bags will not be allowed on base.
All bags and backpacks are subject to inspection upon entering Coast Guard property.
Service animals are allowed, but pets will not be allowed on Coast Guard property.
