Boat runs aground, Coast Guard monitoring

BOSTON — A Coast Guard boat crew is monitoring a boat after it ran aground on Devil's Back in Boston Harbor about a mile from Deer Island, Mass., Sat. Aug. 21, 2010.

A person aboard a nearby vessel called the Coast Guard at 2:37 p.m., to report the grounding of the 50-foot cabin cruiser Wilhelmina from Weymouth, Mass.

Coast Guard stations Boston and Point Allerton, the Winthrop Harbor Master and a Massport Fire boat crew responded.

The Massport Fire crew removed 18 people from the vessel, leaving two aboard to stay with the boat. No injuries have been reported.

A Coast Guard Station Point Allerton 25-foot boat crew is on scene to monitor the situation.

There has been a report of the boat taking on some water. Seatow is on scene to assist as needed.

The current plan is to allow the boat to float at high tide. The Coast Guard is working with the owner to determine a salvage plan.
